SOUND FAMILIAR?
Your P&L says you're profitable. Your bank account disagrees.
Generalist accountants treat an online brand like a corner store. E-commerce makes money differently (across channels, fees, and inventory) and your books should show it.
What's my real margin after everything?
Ads, fees, shipping, returns, COGS: by the time it all lands, you have no idea what you actually made.
Which channel is actually profitable?
Amazon, Shopify, wholesale: each has different fees and margins, all blended into one meaningless number.
Inventory is eating your cash
Profitable on paper, but the money is sitting in stock. Without real inventory accounting you can't see how much cash is tied up or when to reorder.

THE WORK ITSELF
Why ecommerce bookkeeping is different.
Your Shopify dashboard shows revenue. It does not show what you actually kept. Between COGS, ad spend, platform fees, shipping, and returns, the gap between top line and real profit is where most ecommerce brands get into trouble. Here is what closing that gap takes.
True landed COGS
Unit cost is the easy part. Landed cost means freight, duties, tariffs, inspection, and inbound shipping allocated back to each SKU. Brands that skip this consistently overstate margin, and the error compounds: you scale spend on a product you believe earns 40 points when it actually earns 22.
Inventory accounting
Inventory is not an expense when you buy it, it is an asset until it sells. Getting that wrong distorts every month you order stock. FIFO, weighted average, and proper cost of goods timing are what make your P&L reflect reality instead of your purchase schedule. It is also where most of your cash is sitting.
Multi-channel reconciliation
Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, and Etsy each report differently, settle on different schedules, and net out their fees before the money lands. Reconciling gross sales to what actually hit the bank, per channel, is tedious and unavoidable. Without it you cannot tell which channel is genuinely profitable.
Returns, fees, and contribution margin
Returns, chargebacks, payment processing, fulfilment, and ad spend all sit between the sale and the profit. Contribution margin by product and by channel is the number that tells you what to scale and what to cut. Most brands we meet have at least one bestseller that loses money on every order.

WHY A SPECIALIST
A generalist accountant vs a team that speaks e-commerce.
