The monthly close checklist

A clean monthly close is the difference between books you trust and books you hope are right. This is the same checklist we run for clients: grab it, adapt it, and never wonder if you missed something.

What's inside

  • Bank & credit card reconciliation: every account, to the statement

  • Revenue check: invoices issued, revenue recognized correctly, deferred revenue updated

  • Expense review: bills entered, prepaid expenses amortized, nothing miscategorized

  • Payroll & taxes: wages, liabilities, and sales/payroll tax accrued

  • Balance sheet review: the step most people skip, and where errors hide

  • Reporting: P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reviewed against last month

How to use it

Run it in the same order every month, ideally closing by the 10th for the prior month. Consistency is what turns a close from a scramble into a 90-minute routine.
